Human trafficking is a billion-dollar industry that affects both adults and youth. We welcome Carly Devlin MSW as she discusses the history, mission, and services of HART at Huckleberry Youth Programs and how it has impacted youth who have been sexually exploited in our community.
Our Club will soon be working with Huckleberry Youth Programs to assemble care kits that provide care items and the like to the youth within HART for their ongoing needs. Watch for more information about this exciting new service project.
Carly has worked for Huckleberry Youth Programs since February of 2016. She has led Huckleberry Advocacy and Response Team (HART), Huckleberry's program for youth experiencing commercial sexual exploitation, since its inception. In addition to managing direct practice efforts, Carly has provided trainings to a variety of organizations and participated in city and statewide policy discussions around the issue of creating policies and programs to best support vulnerable youth. Carly attended Brown University and received her MSW from UC Berkeley. Carly has worked with youth experiencing commercial sexual exploitation and other groups of vulnerable young people as a teacher and social worker since 2009. She has taught sexual health education in Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties, facilitated community-based participatory research projects with young women in Washington, DC, and provided therapy and case management to marginalized youth in the Bay Area since 2012. Carly's work is guided by the idea that youth are experts in their own experiences and that effectively supporting them involves prioritizing their voices and definitions of safety, well-being, and justice.
We hope you will join us for this insightful meeting on how we can learn more about helping those who have been trafficked or sexually exploited.
This is a regular membership meeting of the Rotary Club of San Francisco, open to all Rotarians, visiting Rotarians, prospective members, and guests.
